The Carneddau Landscape Partnership are pleased to be hosting a one day introductory course on using lidar data to explore the landscape and archaeology of Snowdonia. In the morning we will cover the background to this revolutionary technology and explore what it has to offer in our upland landscape. After lunch we’ll head outdoors with our data to explore the interface between digital model and reality for a local archaeological landscape.

Please note that this course will be delivered in English (though Welsh speaking archaeologists will be there to assist participants) and you’ll need to be comfortable walking up to 2 kilometres in rugged terrain to participate.

Training Location:  The morning session will be held at Neuadd Ogwen, Stryd Fawr, Bethesda, Gwynedd, LL57 3AN
In the afternoon we’ll explore an archaeological landscape near Abergwyngregyn. Transport from and back to Bethesda will be provided.

Requirements: This course is open to all you don’t need any prior experience though enthusiasm for technology and historic landscapes will be an advantage! We apologise that site visit in the afternoon will not be suitable for individuals with severe mobility issues due to the nature of the terrain. Please contact us in advance if you have any questions. Suitable for 14+ but under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Refreshments: Please bring your own lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided.

Registration: There will be a maximum of 12 participants so please secure your place on the course by completing and submitting the booking form to the right.

All the spaces on this course have now been filled. However this training course is part of a pilot for the Carneddau Landscape Partnership’s bid to the HLF for a scheme to run from 2019-2024 which will include opportunities for people to find out more about lidar and to get involved in identifying archaeology.

If you would like to be kept informed, please email your contact details to noting that you are interested in lidar.

Many thanks!
